Most of the time, we're not into social media holidays, but we'll make an exception for September. Who could pass up Civic Day of Hacking on September 18 or Hobbit Day on September 22? There’s also National #TalkLikeAPirateDay on the 19th. We can’t think of a better day to have a Voodoo Daiquiri (a.k.a. The Purple Drank) at Jean Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop.

Not into social media holidays? Here are four other ways you can celebrate September in NOLA.

1. Southern Decadence Festival, Labor Day Weekend

Southern Decadence is held annually in New Orleans over Labor Day. More than 160,000 LGBTQ travelers and their friends come down for parades, pool parties, gay history walking tours, drag shows and general revelry.

2. Saint's Opener, Sept. 18

The Saints will take on the Green Bay Packers in the Dome on Sunday, September 18. Don your black and gold and come join the fun.

3. New Orleans Burlesque Festival, Sept. 22-25

Blaze Starr. Evangeline, the Oyster Girl. Lilly Christine, the Cat Girl. Aloutte LeBlanc, the Tassle Twirler. New Orleans has rich burlesque history and we celebrate it every September.

4. Beignet FestSept. 24

Leave your donuts in the dust and join us for a celebration of the beignet in New Orleans City Park. Along with all the beignets you could possibly down, there's live music.
