Travel + Leisure: New Orleans Best American City To Visit

November 20 2012 | News

Hotel Provincial - New Orleans courtyardIt’s an exciting time to be in New Orleans, whether you’re planning your trip down here for this weekend (a handful of rooms are still available here at the Hotel Provincial, but hurry!) or early next year for Mardi Gras and the 2013 Superbowl, you’re guaranteed an amazing getaway.

But don’t just take our word for it! Travel + Leisure, the iconic travel magazine with close to 5 million readers declared New Orleans the best city in the United States to visit. The Big Easy beat out a number of other locations in their annual readers’ survey including Charleston, Chicago, Minneapolis, Nashville, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Fe, Savannah and West Virginia.

It’s not the first piece of good news that New Orleans received from a travel magazine recently. Back in October, New Orleans came close to the top in another travel magazine, Conde Nast Traveler’s list of Top 10 Cities to vist in the United States.

Travel + Leisure crowned New Orleans a “clear winner” as the city placed in the top spots in more than half of the categories they surveyed, including fine dining and music.

One Travel + Leisure reader, Larry Lovell said, “In New Orleans, the people are friendly, the bars have history, and the local music culture has no comparison. It's easy to be comfortable there.”

If you’ve been to New Orleans, you know that the Crescent City is the best American city to visit. You didn’t need a travel magazine to tell you that city is a perfect destination. If you haven’t been to New Orleans, what are you waiting for?
