Wish You Were Here: Spring in the French Quarter

Today kicks off spring, and it’s a beautiful time to visit New Orleans. The mild weather has locals wishing the weather could be like this year round. Temperatures are in the 60’s and 70’s, the skies are a relaxing shade of blue, and even when it does rain, it’s just for a few minutes.

But it’s not just the weather that makes it a perfect time to visit here. Festival season is just kicking off and it seems like every weekend there is something fun and festive happening around town.

Here’s a few highlights from the calendar:

The Tennessee Williams New Orleans Literary Festival is happneing now through March 23. The fest attracts Tennessee Williams fans, literary lovers and people who just want to have fun to the French Quarter.  There are literary panels, re-enactment of Williams’s plays and the must see “Stella!” contest.

French Quarter Festival is April 10-13. It’s a free festival set up throughout the Quarter featuring a near over load of music and a plethora of dining options. This year’s show is headlined by Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy-winner Dr. John.

The Crescent City Classic, a 10K race through the French Quarter and other parts of New Orleans, is April 19. It’s as much a party as it is a race, and it attracts runners from all over the globe.

Don’t forget about the Easter holiday. It’s April 20, and here we celebrate Easter with not just one, or two, but three parades through the Quarter.

Or you can always skip the big weekends and come when there is nothing on the schedule, or even better yet, for a much needed week long getaway. Either option will help you avoid the largest crowds, but don’t worry, there’s still lots to see and do. Between the historic sights and premium dining, you’ll have a New Orleans experience that I’m sure you’ll never forget.
